Motul, the global technology fluids company, is taking its long-standing technical partnership with McLaren Racing to the next level, bringing its advanced lubricant technology across Formula 1 and the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC). As Formula 1 heads to Malaysia and Singapore this October, the partnership highlights Motul’s continued commitment to developing high-performance technologies through the world’s most prestigious racing platforms.
Built on more than ten years of collaboration across multiple GT3 programmes, Motul and McLaren Racing have developed a strong technical relationship centred on bespoke solutions and a shared pursuit of performance. The partnership spans across two pinnacle disciplines of motorsport, with Motul supplying lubricant for the MCL40’s gearbox and differential since the start of the 2026 Formula 1 season, while supporting McLaren Racing’s upcoming WEC Hypercar programme with engine and transmission lubricants from the 2027 season.
Advancing Lubricant Technology in Formula 1

Motul’s R&D teams in France and Japan worked alongside McLaren Racing for nine months to develop a bespoke formulation specifically for the MCL40’s gearbox and differential. More than 40 tests were conducted across pre-selection, tribological testing, material compatibility assessments and final validation at the McLaren Technology Centre in Woking.
The resulting lubricant has been developed to optimise mechanical efficiency and transmission system reliability, while maintaining performance across Grand Prix conditions. The collaboration reflects Motul’s approach to motorsport technology, combining specialist expertise, advanced formulation and extensive testing to create solutions tailored to the requirements of each racing platform.
Carlo Savoca, Chief Marketing Officer of Motul Asia Pacific, said: “Motul has always been driven by a commitment to advancing lubricant technology, and our collaboration with McLaren Racing brings together two teams with a shared passion for engineering excellence and continuous development. Formula 1 provides an exceptional environment to refine our technologies, where precision, performance and engineering excellence come together at the highest level. Every kilometre on track provides valuable technical insights that allow our teams to explore new possibilities in lubricant performance. As we progress through the 2026 season, including the Singapore Grand Prix, we are proud to see this partnership come to life on track and to bring these learnings forward into the next generation of Motul technology.”
Extending Expertise into Endurance Racing
Alongside Formula 1, Motul will support McLaren Racing’s Hypercar programme in the FIA World Endurance Championship from the 2027 season, supplying lubricants for the engine and transmission. Motul will also provide technical collaboration as McLaren Racing prepares for its WEC debut
Drawing on its extensive endurance racing heritage, Motul’s racing range, including the iconic 300V, provides a strong technical foundation for the programme. The range has become a benchmark for many endurance racing teams, with Motul continuously developing its lubricant technologies through experience across leading racing disciplines.
Motul will also support McLaren Racing through its Racing Lab, a mobile laboratory equipped to analyse fluid samples and provide detailed insights into wear, oxidation, thermal stability and fuel dilution. This technical expertise enables Motul to continuously develop and refine its lubricant technologies through real-world racing experience.
Building on Decades of Motorsport Expertise
Motul has been an integral part of endurance racing for more than seven decades, with its relationship with the 24 Hours of Le Mans dating back to 1954. The brand has supported teams across LMGT3, LMP2 and Hypercar categories, while its relationship with the FIA World Endurance Championship and the 24 Hours of Le Mans was further strengthened through its Official Lubricant Partnership established in 2016.
Motul’s motorsport involvement extends across Formula 1, the FIA World Endurance Championship, MotoGP, Dakar, MXGP and Enduro GP, providing the brand with a diverse platform to develop, test and refine lubricant technologies alongside leading teams and manufacturers. This motorsport expertise also underpins Motul’s product development philosophy, with racing environments providing valuable technical insights that contribute to the continuous
The partnership with McLaren Racing brings together Motul’s expertise in high-performance lubricants with McLaren Racing’s engineering capabilities across Formula 1 and endurance racing.
